PLAYERS HIGHLIGHTED

There’s a moment every baseball fan carries with them forever.

Maybe it was a walk-off you witnessed in person. Maybe it was a home run you watched on TV with your dad that you’ve never forgotten. Maybe it was a player you grew up idolizing who made you fall in love with the game in a way nothing else ever has.

For me, it was July 4th, 1999.

I was at Shea Stadium with my family, sitting in the upper deck directly behind home plate. From up there, every ball hit in the air looked like it might go out. We’d jump out of our seats, hearts racing — only to watch it settle into an outfielder’s glove.

It happened over and over again through the first three innings while the Braves built a 6-4 lead on the back of four home runs.

We waited. And waited.

Then in the bottom of the seventh, Edgardo Alfonzo stepped to the plate with two runners on. The crack of the bat sounded different. The ball left the yard. Shea Stadium erupted.

I still get goosebumps thinking about it. If I close my eyes right now, I can replay every second of that moment — the noise, the energy, the feeling of finally seeing exactly what I’d been waiting for all night.

That feeling is why I built MLB Daily Dingers. It’s why I share home run videos every single day on social media. And it’s why I wrote The Power Kings.

Because I know you have a moment like that too.

Maybe it’s Willie Stargell going deep at Three Rivers. Maybe it’s Mark McGwire in the summer of ’98. Maybe it’s your team’s slugger doing something you never thought you’d see.

Whatever it is — that memory lives in you. And this book was written to bring it back.

What's Inside The Power Kings

The Power Kings covers all 30 MLB franchises — organized by division — and for each team delivers:

The greatest home run seasons in franchise history, with the context and storytelling that makes the numbers actually mean something

The all-time home run leaders who defined each organization’s identity at the plate

The performances, streaks, and individual moments that casual fans remember and hardcore fans obsess over

From Hank Aaron’s 733 home runs as a Brave to Giancarlo Stanton’s jaw-dropping 59-homer season with the Marlins. From Mike Piazza cementing his Mets legacy to Ken Griffey Jr. doing things in Seattle that still don’t seem real.

This isn’t a record book. It’s a stroll down memory lane for every franchise — told by someone who loves home runs as much as you do.

Is This Book For You?

The Power Kings was written for you if...

You’re the person in your group who actually remembers the stats, the seasons, and the players everyone else has forgotten

You grew up watching a slugger who made you believe anything was possible every time he stepped to the plate

You’ve ever turned to someone during a game and said “you know who this reminds me of?”

You think baseball history is just as exciting as anything happening today

You believe there’s nothing quite like the sound of a ball leaving the park in a moment that matters

You’d rather spend an evening with a great baseball book than doom-scroll through another feed full of content you’ll forget by morning

If any of that sounds like you — this book was made for you.

About The Author

Matt Musico has been obsessed with home runs his entire life.

He’s the founder of MLB Daily Dingers, where he shares home run history with over 30,000 followers across Instagram and Facebook, along with a growing readership on his blog. Every season, he documents the game’s greatest moments as they happen. Every offseason, he digs into the history that makes baseball unlike any other sport.

The Power Kings is a natural extension of everything he’s built at MLB Daily Dingers — the product of years of research, a genuine love for the game, and a belief that the stories behind the numbers deserve to be told properly.

He lives in Connecticut, and yes — he still thinks about that Edgardo Alfonzo home run on July 4, 1999.
